St. Michael, Albertville Firefighters Battling Blaze, Temperatures On Frankfort Parkway

St. Michael and Albertville firefighters worked Wednesday morning against a fast-moving garage fire and life-threatening temperatures as the mercury continues to sit well below zero.

The fire broke out shorty after 7:30 a.m. in the 4300 block of Mayfield Avenue Northeast, just across the street from Highwoods Park and adjacent to Frankfort Parkway.

Smoke billowed from the home's garage as crews quickly connected hoses and doused flames visible on arrival.

An hour after the initial call the fire smoldered into insulation in the upper level of the home. Firefighters removed roofing and siding to get hoses in place to stop the fire from spreading.

No one was hurt, according to a witness on scene. A family dog was missing, however.

Temperatures were 12 to 14 below zero at the time of the fire, with wind chill around 30 below.

Crews from Albertville and St. Michael took turns attacking the fire, in an attempt to keep men warm.
