Rhonda Sivarajah Enters Race to Replace Michele Bachmann in Congress
Sivarajah is the second Republican to seek the office since Bachmann said she would drop her re-election bid in 2014.
Updated below. Another Republican has thrown a hat into the ring in the campaign to succeed U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) in Minnesota's Sixth Congressional District.
Rhonda Sivarajah, chair of the Anoka County Board of Commissioners, announced her candidacy for Congress in Ham Lake Wednesday morning.
"Sivarajah says she has proven she can deliver—not just talk about—conservative results," the Associated Press reported.
Since Bachmann and her DFL challenger Jim Graves left the race recently, Republican Tom Emmer and DFLer Judy Adams have announced they are running.
Update: In a written statement, Sivarajah cited these Anoka County Board accomplishment under her leadership:
- Lowered the property tax levy each of the last two years
- Focused on debt reduction and did not borrow money for capital improvement projects last year (for the first time in about 15 years)
- Stood up to special interests and ended the prevailing wage ordinance for projects which were funded by property taxes
